I was thinking…about how annoyed I get when Tahnorra writers/artists portray Tahno as this suave, elegant, charismatic sex/love machine and Korra as some naive blushing virgin. I mean obviously I’m not here to tell people they’re doing fandom wrong (and I don’t believe in the concept of “doing fandom wrong,” anyway, seeing as I ship Tahnorra in the first place), but it really bothers me on a fundamental level.
I think what aggravates me the most about supersexyhunk!Tahno is that it basically ignores what I find most interesting about his character: his patheticness. I’m really, really attracted toward male characters who are fundamentally pathetic - witness my fondness for Draco Malfoy, Gaius Baltar, and Loki, who are, funnily enough, very often portrayed as charismatic/snarky/sexy/one-dimensional bad boys anyway (if not just weepy woobies, which is another can of worms there).
I like that Tahno is kind of ugly, kind of sleazy, a cheating scumbag and total asshole who screams like a little girl when he’s in danger and basically shows very little in the way of moral fiber - but he has the potential to become a better person
thanks to the power of his love for Korra. Thankfully it seems that most of fandom feels the same way, but it still annoys me when people downplay or just flat-out ignore his flaws. (To say nothing of how Korra’s characterization suffers too…fercrissake she isn’t as sexually/romantically experienced as Tahno, true, but she’s got ten times more backbone than him)I guess I am mad that people are doing fandom wrong. /shrug
Fucking this. By removing his slimyness and her rowdyness you’re killing exactly what makes these characters great characters. I don’t care what context you put them in, just keep them in character, for the love of LoK.
