Indie Comics Week Day 1: Hellboy!
This week I’m asking Jojo to draw heroes from publishers other than DC or Marvel. This Hellboy drawing is really good but from it, we learn some interesting things about Jojo herself.
First off, it’s now official that Jojo’s brain just edits pouches out of her memory. If Cable, Deadpool and now Hellboy don’t equal pouches in her mind, no one will. In fact, she’s owned up to some conscious omitting. When she handed this to me, she said, “I know he has a trench coat. I didn’t want to draw it.” Also, we’ve learned that Jojo is starting to doubt her own instincts because when I showed her a drawing of Hellboy she said, “I thought he had facial hair but then I thought I’d made that up and left it off!!!” Plus for the first time, she drew a line behind him (signifying the ground) suggesting that all her drawings before this took place in a hellish, endless void of yellow nothingness.
Really though, lumpy potato muscles aside, this is close to perfect with only a few flaws. She left off his hair, gave him a snaggletooth and Hellboy’s right hand of doom is supposed to be on his, well, right hand.
Finally, Hellboy’s saggy chest teaches us that in Jojo World, lady boobs point up and man boobs point down. I think we’re all better for having that knowledge.
